[ENG] 10.4. [DKSF 54.2 IU] How to Configure a Pinger in the Module «Logic»?

To configure a pinger, there is a need to go to the page «LOGIC» of device web interface:

In the section «Pinger» it is possible to configure checking of an availability of a specified address via a network. A result of polling (a pinger status) can be chosen as an «input» of a logic rule. How to configure a rule in the module «Logic», you can learn from the section «[ENG] 10.2. [DKSF 54.2 IU] How to Use the Module «Logic»?». It is possible to configure no more than two pingers – «PINGER 1», «PINGER 2». A typical use of a pinger is automatic switching of a backup equipment power when a connection line failed.

where:

Address – is an address of a polled device. An empty line disables polling. On default: empty line

Polling period, s (5-900) – a value is chosen taking into account how quickly a fault must be discovered. Also, note that too frequent switching of power can decrease an equipment lifetime. If there is no response, ICMP echo (ping) is repeated after a timeout is over, and not when the next polling period starts. On default: 15

Ping timeout, ms (100-10000)  is the time of waiting for a response to ping. A timeout is chosen according to the operation speed of a local network taking into account the frequency to repeat unresponded «pings». If there is no response to «ping» when a timeout is over, sending «ping» is repeated immediately. If there is no response after 5 repeated sending, a status of a pinger is changed to «silent», and repeats are stopped until the next polling period starts. On default: 1000

Status possible values are: «responds», «silent», «-». If polling is not completed, a status can be undefined. In this case, the rules that depend on a status of a pinger, do not form any commands, and their outputs are controlled by other rules or keep a previous status. A status of a pinger is updated automatically nearly 4 times a minute.

In the case of using domain names, there is a need to take into consideration that because of the unavailability if a DNS server or a lack of an IP address in DNS settings, the module «LOGIC» will not be able to determine an availability of a requested address. «Pinger» is switched to the status «silent».

After configuring the values of a pinger, there is a need to click the button «Apply changes».
