[ENG] 14.4. [DKSF 70/71.6 IU] How to Configure Pinger in the Module «Logic»?

To configure a pinger, there is a need to go to the page «LOGIC» of a device web interface:

In the section «Pinger» it is possible to configure testing of availability of the specified IP address/DNS name via the network. A result of testing (pinger status) can be chosen as «input» of a logic rule. It is possible to learn how to configure the rule in the module «Logic», from the section «[ENG] 14.2. [DKSF 70/71.6 IU] How to Use the Module «Logic»?». It is possible to configure no more than two pingers «PINGER 1», «PINGER 2». A typical use of the pinger is the automatic switching on the backup power when the connection line failed.

where:

Address – is an IP address/DNS name of a tested device for availability. An empty line disables polling. On default: empty line

Polling period, s (5-900) – a value is chosen while taking into the account how quickly a failure must be discovered. In addition, there is a need to note that too frequent switching power may reduce the lifetime of the equipment. If there is no response, ICMP echo (ping) is repeated after finishing timeout, and not at the next polling period. On default: 15

Ping timeout, ms (100-10000)  is a time of waiting for the ping. Timeout is chosen considering the operation speed of a local network taking into account the frequency of repeating unresponded pings. If there is no response to ping when timeout is over, sending the ping is immediately repeated. If after five repeated sending there is no response, a pinger status is changed to «silent», and repeats are stopped until the next polling period. On default: 1000

Status – possible values are: «responds», «silent», «-». If polling is not completed, a status can be undefined. In this case, the rules that depend on a pinger status, do not produce any commands, and their outputs are controlled by other rules or keep the same status. A pinger status is updated automatically nearly four times a minute.

When using domain names, there is a need to take into account that the module «Logic» will not be able to determine the availability of requested addresses because of unavailability of a DNS server or a lack of an IP address in the settings of the DNS module. «Pinger» is switched to the status «silent».

After setting the values of the pinger, it is necessary to click the button «Apply changes».
